OPRISKO LIKE FINE WINE FOR MAYSVILLE UNCORKED
Peter Oprisko, Chicago’s “Singing Sensation” returns to town to make music for Maysville Uncorked, the annual fundraiser for the Maysville Players.
Hailed as the “next Frank Sinatra,” Oprisko will headline the annual festival June 14th on Market Street in downtown Maysville. Oprisko and his band are expected to take the stage at 8 p.m.
Maysville Uncorked, coordinated by Peg Crum and Anne Belcher with the City of Maysville, features a number of wineries from across the region, as well as associated businesses with Kentucky products. Wine tasting begins at 4 p.m. The cost for the festival is $10 for five two-ounce samples of the wines. Wine glasses will be available for $5 with an additional ticket.
“Uncorked is a great event for the Players, the city, and the state,” Peg Crum explained. “Last year, more than 1,800 people showed up for the festivities.”
Volunteers are needed to help staff the wine and ticket booths. For information about how to get involved, call Peg Crum at 584-0262 or Ann Belcher at 301-3394.
“We are so excited to bring Peter Oprisko back to town,” said Debbie Lewis, president of the Maysville Players. “He is a huge crowd-pleaser with his amazing vocals.”
Oprisko played the Washington Opera House on March 24, 2007 as part of the Players’ Center Stage series that has also included performances by jazz vocalist Rachael Price and the comic stylings of Tomas Kubenik.
Performing classics from the “Great American Songbook,” Oprisko has a repertoire of more than 2,000 songs from composers such as Cole Porter, George Gershwin, Johnny Mercer, Jerome Kern, Paul McCartney and John Lennon.
Though interested in music since his days in high school choir, Oprisko did not initially pursue a career in performing. He graduated from Indiana University in 1993 with a degree in radio and television production and presentation.
For 12 years, Oprisko worked in radio and television. As years passed his hobby of singing turned into a full-time career.
“That was really how it all came about,” Oprisko said. “Before I knew it, my singing career really started to take off.”
Oprisko considers himself a “modern day torch carrier,” helping to carry on the great legacies of American composers and singers. His passionate presentation, elegant style, and extraordinary ability to connect and interact with audiences have garnered many fans and admirers. He enjoys an active performance calendar, including intimate jazz clubs, concert halls, corporate events, nuptials, and college campuses.
In short, the Peter Oprisko experience is simply an unforgettable excursion into great music at it’s finest.
